Just wanted to say hi...
I have joined the site after recommendation from a member of VXON (Vauxhall Owners Network), as am currently the (very) part time mechanic for the mother-in-law, who happens to own an '82 MK1 Golf GTi Cabrio.
I will inevitably spend many an hour perusing the site looking for tips & techniques for repairing and maintaining the aforementioned Golf, and figure that i should introduce myself properly.
I currently live in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, and, i'm afraid to say, prefer Vauxhall power to VW myself, and currently own a '93 MKIII Cavalier SRi, and a '98 Vectra GSi V6. The first of which is currently parked-up, broken down! The latter has become the every-day work-horse now, if a tad thirsty! I also own an '89 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9, which is currently awaiting a "rainy day" to restore to it's former glory.
The link to the site comes from the mother-in-laws' ownership of an '82 MKI Golf 1.8 8v GTi Cabrio, which she loves, though it does seem a little unreliable, to say the least. Probably, in part, due to the age, and the apparent past lack of regular use & maintenance. I also suspect that the aformentioned vehicle has been involved in an accident at some point, and repairs seem to be have been carried out to a relatively low standard.
I am looking forward to learning more about the MKI in general (which i know little about!), as I love cars as a whole, and am a bit of an anorak!
So please bear with me when I post questions as at present i do not know engine codes, etc. but am keen to learn.
