Fuel tank
« on: 16 July 2007, 20:52 »
Hi guys,

I seem to be having a problem with my fuel tank.  My current empty mark on the fuel guage is just above the quarter mark.  I know that it is not the guage as I have changed the cluster.  I personally think it is the fuel sender unit.  How do I go about checking it out.  The other thing is that when fuel runs out and I refuel, once I get to about 20 quid the air lock kicks in and stops the fuel flow. I can still fill more but it keeps stop the flow.

Any ideas on what it could be.

I know that you guys are the GTi gods...

The guage sender unit is located under the boot floor (from the inside) via a hatch..you might wanna pad the area around it incase u spill any fuel etc, not sure how hard of a job it is as iv not done it yet.

My mum had a similar problem in an old Maestro (). It was the fuel tank that had buckled. I hope yours is an easier fix.
