Funny headlights- is this normal

No problems or anything just i bought a mk2 golf and i was fiddling around when parked with some m8s and when my ignition is off and i press the indicator arm down, each one of my headlights comes on, for example if i push the indicator arm down my left headlight comes on by its own and if i push it up the right one comes on, this only works when ignition is off ,because obvissly the indicators works as normal when igntion is on, is this normal? as i havent owned a mk2 before, or has someone been fiddling around with the electrics b4 me lol.

lol, things are only obvious once you know about them!  I had problems with my last car where I couldn't get the interior lights to turn off so I had to disconnect them, plus I had to disconnect the alarm as the power going to the interior lights all the time meant if I set the alarm it would go off!  I posted on a lotus forum about it, only to be told to check to see if the light switch was pulled out as that would turn the interior lights on!  Sure enough that's what it was....I felt a right plum!!!!!

m8 same thing happend to me i parked up by my house and cas i indicated when i stop i jumped out and went in the house, when the wife came home she started moaning that i had left my lights on again (realy need to do that buzzer mod) and one of the bulbs had blown, took me bloody ages to work out why the dam light was on, then lucky enough a bloke came past in a mk2 and we got chatting, funny enough i felt like a right prick lol.
