Will a center console from a mk 1 fit into a mk 2 without any problems?

I found a local mk 1 center console with the gauges fitted, cheap too.
Just wanted to know before i commit to buying.

if the console is cheap then buy it anyway. remove the gauges and then sell the console on ebay
