MK 2 GTI factory immobiliser?
« on: 03 July 2007, 16:55 »
Hey folks, just wondered if my `90 golf gti 8v was fitted with an immobiliser from factory? Ive got a little adapter that I have to fit into the dash (just above the headlight switch )to enable the car to start  and was wondering if this was standard? I told insurance company but dont think they counted it as security so think im gonna have to look for a cat 1 alarm or sominc (not to hot on all this stuff) for insurance purposes. Next question is does this have to be proffesionally installed to count? Me just a poor boy from a poor family..so every penny counts

No to the factory fitted.

Yes to the pro install for the insurance.

Properly installed cat 1 system will start at about 300 quid. Probably best letting them remove the old stuff :afro:

On most mk2 GTIs, unless it's heavily modified just a CAT2 immobiliser is enough for most insurance companies and cost about a ton fitted (need to get the certificate for insurance). The immobilser fitted is porbably a CAT2, but it is trying to prove it.
