I've had 3 8 valvers and now got a 16v. Loads of people say the 16v doesn't have the torque of the 8 valve, but I was suprised that the 16v was quite torquey.

That said the 8 valve is a lot easier to work on and I was less worried about the engine going bang.

If you are after a daily driver I'd go for 8v (that said my 16v is my daily driver Doh!)

I'd look at as many cars as you can as a lot of dogs out there and mk2 prices seem to be bombing at the moment, which can't last forever.

cheers

Ive got a 16v and my mate has an 8v, we tried an experiment and my 16v was quicker than his wherever in the rev range, everyone says the 8v's are more torquey low down or whatever but its one of them urban myths, however im now selling my 16v to buy an 8v as it works out more economical for me to run at the minute.

Basically you should test drive as many as you can with a variety of different engines and see what you prefer and then weigh up the cost of running it
