Help - Steering Wheel Wobble
« on: 28 June 2007, 16:47 »

I have an ED30 2.5 weeks old.

I ordered Factory Fit Cruise Control but cam without.

Booked it in for Dealer fit, but they could not get one to fit, so they tried another same thing, then they changed the steering wheel control box still nothing.

Anyway need the car back as need for work, upon collection saw the mechanic has added 20 miles and that he managed somehow to get the mpg down to 14 !!! (don't know how he managed this I have not been able)

Went to work the next day and noticed steering wheel wobble between 60 - 70, 80 + no problem. (Previous 900 miles no hint of this and covered the same road)

I have Dunlop tyres on the Pescaras.

I have the tyre balanced check and they are ok, put the front tyres at the back and vice versa and still have wheel wobble.

Can any of you guys help as tearing my hair out at the moment.

take it back to your dealer and tell tem to sort it; they've caused the problem, they can fix it!

how can they not fit the cruise control? sounds like a bunch of idiots to me! I mean how can youoffer a service and then not be able to fit it??

I have been back and had the sales guy and the mechanic in the car whilst I was driving to check it out.

The mechanic was very defensive, and I could not believe some of the stuff he was coming out with, ' I have a golf and mine does it a 80' and ' its the road surface' as if that would satisfy me !!!

He had several other classics, even the sales rep was imbarrased. ( who by the way is exellent, is trying to help in every way)

I also forgot to mention 4 scratches when they took of the steering wheel !!!

Shocking  everything which has been scratched should be replaced - period.

My GTI has now done 5k and I don't have any wheel wobble at any speed - never have had.

Stick with it and don't give in.

Speak to the Dealer principle and tell him that unless they fix all aspects to your complete satisfaction you will reject the car and want your money back. Then see what they say

Totally agree... except I'd put it in writing. It may sound a bit drastic but I'd contact Trading Standards, they are there to help and will tell you what to write...
