Mesh query...
« on: 17 June 2007, 19:23 »
Asking for a friend. He's been having gunky oil for some time now in his 1990 16v. I replaced the oil cooler a few weeks ago, done a compression test and all was good. Thing is, he's getting a small amount of mayo on his dipstick! (oooer!). I told him to blow out the breather pipe that goes from the front of the block, to the airbox. He said, after discovering a lump in it, he managed to squeeze out what looked like a 'ball of mesh'. Is this standard or is this why he was getting the problem? It seems to have sorted it. Has anyone else had this or know what it could have been?

Possibly to stop all the sh!t that's in your oil ending up in the intake? Good example of that as standard is that "mushroom" type thing that sits on the right hand side of the cam cover on a 8v, that's full of mesh...

Just a guess though.

I think its supposed to prevent damage to the metering head if the engine backfires, dont quote me on that though.
