Digifant stalling!
« on: 31 January 2004, 23:04 »
Hello All,

My '92 8V has started cutting out again when I come to a halt (particularly after I give it a bit of a blast) >:(
I had this problem before & I took it to my local VW specialist, who very generously tuned it for free, which sorted the problem for a couple of months but now it has returned :'(

Surely the car doesn't need retuning already, I very much doubt the mechanic will do it for free again & I don't want to pay for it, only for the problem to return after a while!

Could this have anything to do with the ISV?

Any help as always will be greatly appreciated :)

is it sparking strong? spark plugs, spark leads been checked?

i noticed once i dissconnected the blue sensor (see pic) my car didnt idle good.  Maybe yours is faulty. Its only a few ?'s to change and probably worth it anyway.

Check that you havn't got any air leaks, esp the pleated pipe from the air flow meter to the throttle body.

If thi is a Mk2 8v you are talking about, then clean out the idle screw and the throttle butterflies, as this may well be the cause of the problem, especially if the weather is wet or damp.

There is an article on my web site which explains how to do this.

Thanks John, you were spot on  :D  I cleaned the idle screw & the ISV, so far the car has behaved itself (touch wood).
I also replaced the dizzy cap, rotor arm & leads,  its running much smoother now 8)
