Gearbox Problem

hi guys. My Mk4 golf gearbox seem harder and rougher to engage in recent weeks. Especially in gear 1,2 and 5. Is toughest is when i want to upshift from gear 1 to gear 2. My service my car at VW on a regularly basis and i am 5000miles before my next servicing is due. My ride currently clocked 67k miles. Can anyone enlighten me what is causing the problems. Cheers.

Could be. The clutch seem much softer these days too, almost depressing it without much pressure.Not too sure if this is common for golf. But i somehow feel that  the fault lies in the gearbox. Anyway i have made an appointment with VW to diagnoise the problems. Thanks mates !

worn synchromesh?

check your gearbox oil. regarding the clutch you could try bleading that to check for air but you need a pressurised kit you can't do the two man method.

i had a similar problem......i had been driving my sister mk4 gttdi for a few weeks and the gears got harder to put in and eventually i went on a 200 mile trip to find 3/4 of teh way there the gears went!....i had it in third and it wouldnt change..so wen i put it in 1st it was third ...wen i put it in reverse it was in third still.....it turned out to be the lever in the engine that had one nut on it that had come undone over time and was stuck....AA tightened it up and off i went and its been fine ever since....
