Master Cylinder

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been covered a million times!

I have got a 91 8v GTi and have just had some 16v brakes fitted, the master cylinder that is on the car at the moment is the old one, it has two pipes coming from it whilst the new 22mm master cylinder has 3 pipes coming from it, is it necessary to use the 3rd pipe or can it be blanked off and not have any detremental affect on braking performance. Or do i have the wrong master cylinder?

The donor car was a passat.

I think you should use the new master cylinder and blank off the 3rd outlet. Pressuming the new one is off a 16v which will have a larger bore cylinder.

I thought about doing that but just wanted to make sure! I don't really want to be taking any chances with the brakes :o

When i bought a master cylinder for my old car , it had a spare outlet. Make sure you get a screw in blank for it, vw will give you something if you ask.

anyone know if the jetta's 8v master cylinder is different from the golf 8v?

just got one of someone on this site, and it does have 3 outlets as opposed to 2. it's still a 20mm cylinder.

would the brake setup be different at the rear of a jetta, therefor needing a third line?

I take it fitting a blanking screw would do the job right?
