Porsche adaptors on a Rallye..
« on: 16 May 2007, 14:01 »
I remember saying a few months ago that I was thinking of getting some Design 90 Porsche wheels for my Rallye and someone said that it isn't advisable to put adaptors on a Rallye.  Why is this?
Reason I ask is that i've binned the idea of putting Porsche wheels on but I have spotted some Zender's that will need adaptors to fit my car as they are 5 stud fitment. I can't understand if I can fit adaptors to a standard Golf why they wouldn't be ok on a Rallye so some information about this would be helpful..

Thanks, Andy

I think the best way to do this is to use a VR hub for the five stud pattern, If you run spacer adptors it will stress the hub and wheel at the close 4x100 to 5x100. Not recomended as its dangerous in any car let alone a Rallye. It's eaiser to convert from a original VR hub @ 5X100 then to other fitments, as your spacer will be about 9" thick so you can imagine the spacers taking the stress not hub!
Hope that helps!

Well maybe I won't stick em on my Rallye then, but I'm gonna use em on my B-reg 8v, it seems a lot of people do use them and the person who had these wheels before me have been using spacers with no problems.  The wheels i'm gonna fit are actually BMW 5x120 fitment at ET 15 and the spacers are 20mm thick so should be fine, he said the spacers can take the Porsche 5x130 porsche fitment too which is a bonus, but I think i've found the wheels i'm gonna stick with. Here's a piccie, just need to get a mate to fabricate some centres for em:

Just need some Zender Turbo's for my Rallye now...

So hang on, ET 15 with 20mm spacers? That makes an overall offset of -5! Are you sure they're going to fit!?

Well with a bit of arch work i'm sure they'll be ok, they've got 185's stretched over them too which will help a bit i guess? See what happens, might give myself another minor project, or at least give me the kick up the arse that I need..
