Best fuel efficient Golf
« on: 04 May 2007, 11:31 »
Would that be the TDI? Basically, i drive over 500 miles a week and it kills me on money for petrol. So i want to get something a little more fuel efficient but still a Golf? I know its not the fastest and whatnot, but at this moment in time, it doesnt matter. and im sure there are little upgrades i could do to it aswell? any help would be appreciated.
thanks

try and get yourself a aaz engine mate (1.9 td) from a mk3 golf, seat toledo, skoda felicia etc. and stick it in a mk1 or mk2 golf, loads a miles per gallon and run on cooking oil np's.   you can turn turbo off (more efficent) or upgrade turbo (less efficient), you dont need cat so dump that.  just change oil frequent

check out the MKIV section

there are loads of different versions each with their own strengths.

you can get the following:

90
100
110 (5 speed in GT TDI form)
115 (6 Speed in GT TDI form)
130 (6 Speed in GT TDI form)
150(6 Speed in GT TDI form and GTI / Anniversary form)

whats your budget by the way?

i've got a 130 and its great  easily see 500 miles from a tank, more if i don't boot it

not sure tbh  :undecided:

i paid £8200 for mine last year with FVSH and 56K on the clock.

you could probably pick a good one up for £6500  :undecided: best bet is to trawl autotrader to get an idea

if you want power then get a 130 or 150 and remap it! hopefully going to remap mine next year

I was gonna say get a mk4 130 gt tdi and remap it. Or if you want something different how about a mk1 Leon Cupra FR 150 and get that remapped to nearly 200bhp? Probably cheaper than a golf gt tdi 150 since I think they're anniversary jobbies and something a little different with the same engine!

I've heard remaps can even improve fuel consumption if driven sensibly of course, but who am i kidding if you get a remap you'll probably be hammering it

i think that the 115 is meant to be the most efficient out of the GT-TDI's all depends if you want the extra horses or the economy.

if i drive sensibly i can get over 500 from my 150, however its normally around 480 (when the light comes on) as you can't drive that car sensibly.

you could get the 150 non-anniversary or anniversary, the anniversary's will cost more and you probably wont get stuff like leather, xenons etc
