mk2 abf conversion running problem
« on: 22 April 2007, 19:36 »
I have nearly finished a mk2 8v - mk3 2l 16v abf conversion but have running problems.

The problem is it starts but cuts out after a couple of seconds, we have found that we are not getting a constant spark from the end of the ht leads we do have a spark at the king lead constantley.
we have fuel running constant. we have replaced the dizzy cap and rotor arm and spark plugs - still none the wiser.

could the problem be wiring related or is it mechanical?

if the immobiliser is working would it start at all?

anyone else had this problem?

all the wiring, engine etc came from a mk3 1996 abf 16v gti.

So you've got the key and the transponder ring together and it's wired up to the ECU so the immobiliser is definitely switched off?
Completely different car but my brother's 1997 Clio (which i'm currently borrowing as I'm in the process of putting an ABF in to my mk2) has the same problem as you are experiencing when the immobiliser is on, starts but cuts out after a second or 2.

hi mate, thanks for the reply,

a friend of mine tried to remove the transponder box and we had it running a while ago without it. I will put it back in - do you or anyone know where i can get a diagramm for the wiring of the transponder box?

Sorry, not sure on the wiring for it but I think you may have been speaking to Rubjonny on MSN, if anyone knows he is likely to. He's the guy helping me with my conversion.

If the car had a factory immobilisor theres no way to bypass it without replacing the ECU or sending it away to have an immobilisor defeat performed on it (expensive)
Best bet is to wire it back in and tape the key to the transponder ring!

Edit: and yes, if the immobilisor is kicking in the car will run for a few seconds then cut out :)

hi

the transponder should be wired up like so

2 browns to earth
live feed to the black wire or grey on some i think

greywire with white tracer goes to the ecu

something like that anyway , got the full diagrmm at work ..........will ammend if im wrong
