Hello there,

I'm a new boy whom has always driven MGB's and wanted a bit of fun.  So got myself a MK2 GTI 1989 oak green big bumper 8v, the car is lowered, stiffend bushes, mono 15's a K'n'N filter and sporty exshurst.

But even though read my Golf Bible i'm still a little diubous about the cluch issue...!!!

When giving it a nice little thrashing (espeically along the A507 buntingford to boldock) there is a lose of torch, power and acceliration in 2,3,4,5 when the revs hit around 4000.  It then jumps to 5500 and on to 6000 very quickly.  If i lift off a bit and then re-apply the pedel it kicks in.  I'm going out now to have a fiddle but any suggestions would be good.

Thank you men and gezza birds...haha

sounds like the clutch is beginning to slip.

Possibly clutch or cable may need adjusting :) try the cheap things first :)

Sounds like release bearing or thrust bearing on yours Adam was it changed when the clutch was fitted?

Probably got lost in the "Great Crash of 08

Hey there,

Adam, i don't get the woring sound when idling but the smell is there as well.  Looking at the history of the car the clutch was only changed a little while ago and unless the bloke before me cained it i can't see how it could of gone in such a small time.

The Clucth cable i thoght was self adjusting? But i will have a look this weekend.  I think as it is a new car to me a few weekends of fiddling and i should have a better understanding about what goes on inside the beast.

And to claify after closer inspection my car is Blue!?!? I read oak green just seconds before writing my first blog thing.

yeah the bearing was changed when the gearbox and clutch was done but it was a gsf part and no vag so that could be it, ive been told i dont have the self adjusting clutch cable for some reason would that be why its slipping, another thing is that it doesnt do it all the time which is also quite weird.

there is something seriously wrong and i really dont want it costing me £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£ its a pain in the arse
