Testing hall sender - Haynes misprint?
« on: 28 April 2007, 18:52 »
So, new coil and ignition module, 8v GTi still running rough.  I want to test the hall sender next.  From Haynes 5B/4, section 5 "Hall sender - testing":

Point 4 says: Pull back the rubber boot from the switch unit and connect a voltmeter between terminals 6 and 3.

However, only pins 1,4,2 and 6 are connected to anything.  Pin 3 is unused.  This is borne out by Wiring diagram 72 (Page 12/56, part N41).  I'm no expert, but I'm never going to see the voltage I'm looking for... ;)

Does anyone know which pins I should connect my voltmeter to?  This must be a misprint in Haynes, right?

What a frustrating day...

Hi

The reason you cant see anything on 3 may be because it is the earth

Can you load diagram 72 up

Which manual are you referring to (page12/56, part N41)
