Vibrations.....
« on: 25 April 2007, 22:08 »
Am getting increased vibration from the engine (not transmission as still happens in neutral or clutch down).  New from mount 6 weeks ago.

Only difference I can see is that I have been running it on 95ron and not V-power the last two tanks.

Any suggestions?  Vibes greater at higher revs.....

Fill it up with super unleaded!, and check by feeling your front tyres across the tread, your looking for a lump on the tread, that'll give you the symptoms you have described
or even swap your wheels, front to rear...

Bearings did not come up even as an advisory on the MoT, and the vibrations are related to revs (even at standstill).  Tyres are new Toyos all round, alignment all OK as well.

re the fuel, what are the symptoms of pinking?

are u sure the exhaust aint rubbing on any part of the chassis?? how does the vibration feel?

if the car is running fine then it wont be pinking, if the timing is out then pinking occurs. but this wouldnt vibrate the car, you'd just hear a metallic knocking noise coming from the engine

Pinking sounds like an irregular metallic tingling noise. It usually happens on acceleration or when the engine is under a load.

Don't think it is the exhaust, but will check at the weekend.  Has only been happening since the MoT a little while back, but only thing I replaced was a CV boot- touched nothing else!  It may be a little rough running in which case poss the fuel issue as put in two tanks of the watery stuff since MoT instead of the Super.

Will change it back next tank and see.

If it is not that, I am lost.

Just noticed that the NSR bearing seems to be leaking.  Would this cause the vibrations at speed?  If so am I better getting them tightened or replaced?
