Popping Noise
« on: 13 April 2007, 08:33 »
In thelast week or so my car has developed an annoying popping noise like a mini backfire.
it seems to be comming from the downpipe but the exhaust has no leaks.
I have changed the blue temp sender and the rotor arm and dizzy.
i'm going to put new leads on and give it a tune on the weekend.

the popping happens when the decellerates

Help!

Mine does it too

Recently it's been idling too fast and I have also lost my pop!

I used to enjoy scaring grannies in built up areas with it

as much fun as it is! its not ment to do that

you can always turn off the engine for a few seconds.
my mate did that and when it backfired it blew a hole in his exhaust!

"ignition bang" i think its called, where you revs the nuts off the car then switch the engine off, then on again.... bang!

i had flames coming out my mk2 a few weeks ago, which is funny because its running a bit lean...

I don't think a semi will give the same results

To be honest mate, anything that you intend to replace after the tune-up would probably be best being replaced before tuning it. At least that way you know 100% you won't be affecting anything that could alter the way the car runs!

Good point!. Gonna take it to a garage and see what they think.
I'll do a quick tune from rubjohnny to see if the car is setup wrong as well

Mine shoots flames on a flat shift upchange.  I used to hear the popping and it wasn't till I was on the track that someone told me about the afterburners coming from the rear of my car (pic below).  It's been tuned and setup correctly but have been told that the custom stainless system may have something to do with it.  Is it normal?  Or is it a tell tale sign of impending doom?

If it goes ok I'd assume its your zaust thats to blame, especially if you're 100% certain that its been setup properly :)
