Boot mounted disc changer............skips?

I am struggling along with my old Sony HU and have now fitted it to my MK2 with a 10 disc cd changer that I purchased at the same time about 10 years ago. (until I get some money )!

I have mounted the disc changer onto the rear boot panel, just below the boot lock. I was most pleased with my efforts, but I now find that when playing discs whilst going over bumps/bumpy roads the music skips and jumps.

Now, this unit was fine in 3 other cars that I have owned. The MK 2 is on standard springs.

Is it the mounting point? Is it fecked? What?

I had a 6-cd autochange that the dealer had fixed to the left side of the boot, right above the wheel.  So whenever the car would go over any pothole, it would jump alot    The vibration from the wheel was just travelling straight up into the changer.

I got my ICE dealer to change it to the back of the boot, just infront of the rear seatbacks.  This way it was pretty central in the car and the changer went from jumping at least once a week to jumping 1 or 2 times a year.

If it still does this after you've moved it, then it could be the laser.  Mine went after 5 yrs.  A car is not the best place to avoid vibration...

has the orientation changed? if so, have you made sure the "screw" is pointing the right way?

I have read about folks putting there changer on the seat backs. I might try that.
I have checked the 'direction screw' thingy and it is in the correct position.

I might just bin it and splash out on a new Alpine (see my ramblings in earlier thread!)

Was scanning through some old threads and found one that recommends fitting a peice of MDF to your parcel shelf and then screw the changer to this. I have just done this myself and so far so good

I have a dodgy (sensitive) Sony CD changer. When I fitted it to my previous car in the boot on to the back of the rear seats I added rubber washers between the seat back and the mounts of the CD changer. It seemed to take out the shocks out of the road vibes. It worked a treat.

sonys in general though do have the worst pick up of scratched cds i have ever seen, good sound and build quality though, JVC on the other hand can read cds that are pretty much snapped in half! my current unit is a sony, only for the DAB tuner though! its the first sony i have had, ive always proper slated them before, but it has lasted, all the buttons havnt worn off and the 'flip down' operation and cd loading is still good and smooth and reliable, cant really fault it, except all the skipping!

id say if u got a sub then the gain on the amp might be 2 high and the bass could be causing the prob, iv got a 12disk jvc changer mounted to the back of the seat and iv had no probs but as every1 says it could be because its picking up on scratches
