Removing ABS sensors?
« on: 08 April 2007, 21:33 »
Hi everyone,

My ABS light has been staying on intermitently over the past few weeks, so I checked out the sensors. Seems like it's the drivers side sensor that's at fault (resistance is all over the place, going from 2k to 15k as I measure it - the passenger side one is dead still at 1.1k as it should be according to another post on here)

Anyway, I ordered a new sensor off ebay but I can't get the old one off to replace it! I've removed the bolt holding it (according to the Haynes manual that's all that's holding it on) but it's stuck fast. I've tried as much leverage and pulling as I can but it's not budging. My next step is to stick a screwdriver through it

Has anyone got any experience getting these things off? Is there something else holding it on that I haven't spotted? The one bolt I took out was a small one, got it off with an allen key.

Any ideas?

chissle the little fecker off! thats the easiest way.

I had to do both fronts last year and thats how i got em out after spending god knows how long being careful only to find out theres no point as you cant damage anything you're not chucking anyway.

The original VW sensors have a metal case which is why it's so stuck in there , the new ones are plastic.
