How to fit a mk3 GTI rear spoiler to mk3 GL
« on: 26 March 2007, 22:47 »
I've got hold of a spoiler from a mk3 gti and want to fit it to my mk3 gl. However, I dont know where the holes for the screws are ment to be located - were they in the glass on the gti's or on the top of the tailgate? Furthermore, is it an easy job to drill the holes or would it be a better idea to try and locate a seperate gti tailgate. Finally, if this is not possible then how good is mastik or a similar substance for this job (will it hold it when going on the motorway for example). Any help would be much appreciated.

ideally you need the gti glass with 3 holes for the bolts to go through. drilling glass is a no no imo.

yes, its possible to stick on. I did similar using epoxy resin and silicone bathroom sealant. Mastik stuff like sikaflex would work also.

Best finding a rear spoiler from a driver as these were bonded to the glass

you could of course pull / cut the bolts out of the gti spoiler, then just bond it onto the glass of your gl.

random question tho... where abouts in the country are you?

hmm, bit too far then, hemel is over an hour away, shame tho... as i have a gti with the holes in the rear glass, and no intention to fit a spoiler, and you have a gl, which has nice smooth glass... and a spoiler that needs fitting!

dont suppose you know how easy it is to remove the rear glass from mk3's do you?

I did it with epoxy and as soon as it cold weather came it just fell off.... So i got my hands on some master bond..  Its the stuff they use to bond windows in cars and that really did the job!
