mk5 -v- mk5 facelift -v- mk6 ????
« on: 17 March 2007, 10:25 »
Hi all

As the username suggests, currently drive a BMW  (-booooo!) MINI Cooper (which i love!) but looking to upgrade to a GTI (need MORE bhp!!!)  .  Test drove a GTI and loved it.

My question... is there a mk6 due out soon?  Seem to be some websites suggesting there might be?  Or a "mk5 facelift"?

If so, any idea of timeframe for release/details of mk 6/pictures etc?  Wouldn't want to take delivery on a mk5 only for a new one to come out very soon after...

Thanks for any suggestions/comments!

Hi mate. I just swapped my mini cooper for a gti in january. I'm chuffed to bits with mine. I don't think there will be a mk6 GTI for another 2 to 3 years. a standard model is usually released first then the gti usually follows a year after. there hasn't been any spy shots of mk6's being tested so i would say you should be save for a while yet.

I've heard conflicting reports.  but theres a forum member who works for a stealer that said late last year that VW are going to facelift the the current Golf with what is effectively an R32 shiney front end, bit like the new Passats.

Who cares, just go and buy one, you'll love it!

the facelift won't effect the gti as they have honeycomb grilles.

Cool, thanks for the info!  Grateful for any further info on this, though looks like an potential facelift won't affect the GTI anyway.

Hi Mini Cooper

I've just sold my 02 plate mini cooper for £7350 57800 miles, which i thought pretty reasonable as i couldnt hold on to it for too long as my 5dr gti dsg arrives in 2 weeks time.

I've test driven a gti and loved it even with the salesman sitting next to me to curb the enthusiasm!

Also as soon as i put my mini on autotrader i got phone calls from companies like cardata telling me they had buyers for my car if only i would pay them £80. Being a naive idiot i payed up and didnt hear another thing. there were other companies as well like proseller. If they ring, abuse them liberally and hang up, the thieving charlatans.

Here you go. All the info you could possibly need + pictures.

Note: Don't get carried away with the red car as car companies mix and match to put spy photographers off. It gives you a look at the bumper design tho. As I say, not sure whether the GTI will be upgraded (even tho the differences would be ridiculously small!)

If you get a GTI - please don't drive it like a BMW
