I am more inclined to look at an old car that is in exceptional original, (or nearly original) condition. My car is in good nick, but by no means a show car. What I want from my Golf is a suptle change that is not immediatly apparent, but separates it from a standard one.
When I do see a radically modified car though, ie spoilers where the sun don't shine and wacky paint job that would put the Multi Coloured Swap Shop to shame, and Carlos Fandango go faster wheels, yes I look, but also laugh. IMO, you cannot change a car into what it is not. At the end of the day, a Golf is a Golf and a Saxo is a Saxo. If people want a thoroughbred sports car, either buy one or build one. I have nothing against personalising cars, I am doing it myself, but I draw the line at fitting at fitting skirts that should belong on a hovercraft and disco lights under the sills.
De-badging...well it gives it a clean look and I suppose, a potential low life would be looking for that GTI badge on the car he wants to interfere with.
