Clutch and accelerator pedal problems!!!
« on: 05 February 2008, 22:15 »
Hello all,

I own a 1991 MK2 16v Golf GTI, I have discovered a few problems with my Clutch and accelerator pedals. Basically my clutch pedal seems to be too high, almost seem like its missing something as it doesnt work untill i press it for more than 1 inch. It use to Align perfecty with the break pedal but now seems quiet higher than break pedal.

Also i have problem with my accelerator pedal as it seems to have a lil play, seems like the accelerator cable has come out of the grommet or missing a stopper, so it has alot of play in it and seems very loose.

Any help would be much appreciated

Regards

The clutch pedal has a plastic stop that looks like a clothes peg:
 71567      CLUTCH PEDAL STOP      G2        0.40
From GSF

My guess its being kicked about in your footwell as its fallen off.

Can't really assume correctly what the accelerator pedal problem would be however if you open up the bonnet, get someone to press the accelerator and you should see the throttle body mechanism, theres the spring that may have weakend or has a fault or maybe the cable has stretched too much with age and never been replaced?

Thank you very much, i knew there was a part missing from the clutch pedal but everytime i went to the local GSF or VW dealer, they werent able to pinpoint what the part number is, i will try what you suggested and fingers crossed that would be it. Accelerator pedal issue is possibly linked to the bush that hold the cable behind the pedal on to chasis, i think that bush might have been worn so i am going to try and replace that too.

thank you once again for the part number, its great help
