cold start probs oil light flashing
« on: 12 February 2007, 10:03 »
the gti saga continues............

just got it back on the road and all is sweet apart from.............................

when its cold (frost on bonnet cold i mean) it takes a couple of attempts to get it to start.  i dont think this is too bad but when it wont start the oil light is flashing.  if its a mild day then i got no probs.

does anyone else have this prob?  is this a warning of another repair bill?

just had new coil, plugs, cam sensor

oh and whilst i think about it another thing is if im coasting and brake at the same time i can feel something grinding under the brake pedal?  brakes arnt affected but its a bit worrying

probably ecu temp sensor or ecu relay but mine was doing that and eventually it became all the time. My throttle body needed cleaning till spotless silver inside (including the butterfly disc) and the ignition timing reset to factory base setting (did both in about 1 1/2 hours)

Runs like a top now but needs a wee bit throttle to start if its cold - try catching it when it fires and giving it a bit of throttle. If it bursts into life i suggest cleaning the TB thoroughly and changing the coolant temp sensor (on top of the big pipe junction at the front of the block wi 4-wire plug)

Hi suzy,

as evil says sounds like ECU temp sensor relay. Mine went about 3 months ago when it started to get cold and wet, cost £10-12 for the relay.

Basically, it was trouble starting, oil light flashing eventually starts and was diffcult to rev then eventually goes OK.
