« on: 24 March 2007, 10:00 »
greeting people,

right where do we start. Yesterday i picked up a 2004 black 3dr gt tdi with 34k on the clock for £8725, so as you can imagine im pretty damn chuffed with myself.

obviously next thoughts are what im gona do it, but i just cant decide. I have a bout £2000ish 2 spend but am not sure on what, so i need some advice

Wheels and suspension: 18s or 19s on eibach springs or koni adjustables? need to know consequences of ride quaility etc i.e dnt want a harsh ride but would like the look of 19s. If i go 18s will eibach springs be sufficient or would ride be better with full koni? help!!

Remap: Revotechnik? whats the verdict people....

exhaust: milltek? overpriced? what does it sound like on a diesel

finally, bbs ch ar ethey really worth the £Â£.

also can i please please have as many pics as pos of mk5s with different wheels as im goin mad trying 2 decide.

cheers

p.s any one have any experience of bigboys toys in thurrock?

Hi Alex,

GT TDI eh! Good car (see pic below!)

I had 18"s on mine with standard suspension and I didn't notice any degradation in the ride quality.

I went to superchips for my ECU upgrade and had no issues. The power difference is very noticable especially in the mid range. I would suspect that most tuners will give similar results and if I was tuning a TDI again I would get one with a handheld controller which can change from standard to modified and back whenever you wish.

I also had a Milltek exhaust fitted to my car, however it was more for the looks at the back end (you will need a GTI rear lower valance) than power. Purely a subjective buy and if you want the extra power then a custom chip would be the way to go to get the best out of it. There isn't much in terms of a decent sound out of the exhaust as the diesel does sound rough compared to a petrol car anyway.

Hope this helps with some of your Q's
