5 days old and Blown 200A fuse
« on: 19 February 2007, 23:52 »
Hi,
I'm new to the forum and new to the brilliant GTI
Just picked mine up 5 days ago.
Last weekend, I suspected problems with the airconditioner as it shut off automatically.
Then battery warning light came up at ignition intermittently.
Then the whole thing stopped in the middle of the highway.
They say the problem is a blown 200A purple fuse!!!!!!
I suspect some other major fault ??alternator
Help!!

Just to follow up on this story...
I got my car back after 3 days in the workshop.

Service manager told me the problem was just a faulty 200A "slow blow" fuse (I think its called)
It feeds power to the alternator and when it goes, the electrical systems start to shut down one by one depending upon the power drain.
They say nothing was wrong with the alternator or anything else for that matter.
The car seems fine now

The service manager said that this was exceedingly rare and that I was just UNLUCKY!!!
My concern is that if I was at a busy (and fast) intersection, I would have been wiped out!!! So he assured me that all problems with GTI and R32 get logged and reported back to VW Germany.
So there you have it... Happy motoring.
