Oh dear.....oil dumped
« on: 19 January 2007, 08:55 »
Morning all,

We bought a Golf GT TDi on Tuesday of this week for my wife to drive around in with the kids.  Yesterday she called and said the oil warning light has come on.  I said get to a garage and get a litre of Diesel and don't use the car.  I checked the oil dip stick (In the dark) and saw there wasn't any oil at all.Great, I thought, I've been done.

This morning, my wife admitted that the car grounded while going over a speed bump (We've got quite large one around our area).  So, not 24 hours in our possession and the it looks like the engine is knackered.

Anyone else had this happen ?  If I need a new sump, how much will it be and is it difficult to take off the sump (Ie, do you have to take the engine out) ?  I'm hoping the engine hasn't completely seized, haven't dared to start it up.

Cheers,

Richie.

My wifes car did this, not a VW but turbo diesel all the same, turned out to be the cyclone filter, about £80 all in to fix (Land Rover prices!)

Yours may not even have a cyclone filter for all I know but hey! good luck

If she stopped as soon as the light came on the engine will be fine. I think GSF do the sumps quite cheap and you can change it quite easily without engine removal.

Just for an update, the car is already booked for a Cambelt change next tuesday and at the same time going to get the sump fixed.

I've sent a letter of complaint to the council as the speed bump my wife went over hasn't been maintained properly and the road has subsided leaving cars to literally nose dive in to the road anywhere close to 20mph.  Hopefully they will pay for the damages.

Richie.

Ouch - hope everything is fine and engine aint knackered.  Makes you extra cheerful when you see that council tax direct debit coming out.

Make sure you have pictures of the offending speedbump, pictures of the damage to the sump while it is still on the car and ideally a letter from the garage confirming the damage and the source.

Then get ready for a lot of agro and a long wait.

Best of luck to you.
