I'll carry out the idle set-up as soon time allows - it is on my next thing to do list.

Was just wondering about the overrun cut-off speed, as I cut my teeth on L-jet systems, and thought that if the engine was receiving enough air to hit 2k, but the idle switch was on, it WOULD be bouncing up to the cut off speed and giving the impression of hunting.

I'll update once I've set up the basics.  Thanks.

OK, success!!

I carried out a basic idle setup, which didn't cure the problem, but I did discover the steel coolant pipe leaking!

Once I'd replaced the pipe, I had a good look around for any other possible causes, and found that the plug on the idle swich had been played with.  One of the terminals had backed out of the plug, and was making/breaking the connection, causing the elusive fault.

A rare one I grant you, but may help someone else in the future!
