Basically this summer i'm going to be attending the teabagrally which is a rally from Dover to Croatia with a few stop offs / parties on the way.
You ahve to be a student to enter, and frankly despite the temptation, I don't want to take my rather nice condition MK1..
Anyway i've also always wanted to have a car that I could not worry about (a project) and practise respraying with and modding etc.. without worrying about if i muck something up slightly.
There is a MK2 Golf 1600 (black) about 10 miles away from where i live on ebay with no mot & no tax, but it runs.
I went viewed it today, and it didn't sound to good & starting was a tad weak, so i removed the battery from my MK1 and put that in the MK2, it started first time everytime, it was running a tad rich and was cutting out so i fiddled with the timing & the mixture a tad and got i running sweat as. The interior is mint, its got slight surface rust starting to show on the front doors, but nothing major at all.
The arches and sills are perfect, it's got full service history up until a year ago, no dents or anything and its not had any welding done to it.
It's standard except it's been lowered 40mm all round, the only thing I can see is as the guy listed two of the brake pipes are pretty corroded.
I reckon I can get this for about £40.. what ya reckon?
Also if i did get it i'll be gradually kitting it out for the rally, & give it a few sprays of paint till i get the hang of it and give it a nice one + sort out all the rust etc, what would you recommend doing to it? - doesnt really matter if i need to, but i'm just gonna use it to build upon what i already know.
