The 1995 golf gti came with a factory fit security which was an alarm with boot bonnet and interior scanning sensor's and also came with an immobiliser (cause of many problem's) and it sounds like your's has being disconnected....It should have come with a vw keyfob for the alarm

I know you can still buy the fob (from most car shop's that sell aftermarket fob's) but the problem you will have is no code from the old fob. Might be worth speaking to vw and see if they can find a code etc...If not time to get the vw system removed completely and a new one in replace (I have had mine fully removed and replaced with a toad)

If you get it fitted by a specialist make sure they quote removal of old unit in the price....And cat 1 will make your insurance happy

My insurance won't touch me without the thatcham certificate..... Suprised it won't make no difference to what you pay...it could lower your excess for theft damage if no price discount. Could be time for a new company!!!!. speak to martin on the insurance section on here see what he think's
