on my mk3, the barrell was knackered cos of the git who wired in the alarm/immobiliser... i dont think they cost much... mine was replaced on warranty cos it gave me an intermittant problem when starting the car (basically it konked out)

The one on my car started playing up and it was like I was trying to start it with the wrong key.

I used WD40 with the straw to lube it up and its been fine ever since. The tumblers in the lock sometimes get stuck and need lubing up.

The electric part of mine is playing up at the moment and I priced up a new one from a VW dealers and the full ignition barrel was quoted at ?43 inc vat, oh yeah, and a new set of keys. If you need anything try Stuart from Euro Car Parts in Leeds (see Deals and Discounts section on home page). The part I actually needed was only ?5.82 from Stuart (thanks again). VW told me I needed the full lot as it only comes in one part only it doesnt, so tread carefully.
......now officially dubless.
