Golf light prob
« on: 28 November 2006, 13:09 »
Hi, i got a golf gti 1.8 t x reg, and i recently put some rear lights on it from a mk 4 tdi (as is had lexus lights when i bought it)  they seemed ok altohugh the bulbs didnt match up with the holes as there were 5 holes and only 4 bulbs. but it worked ok (just the lights and break were a dual filament bulb) but a few days later my mate touched 2wires together and herd a nice pop and blew a few fuses. now all the rear lights are wrong on mainly the right side (which also looks like the owner has chooped the loom about)

Eg i indicate right and the reverse light flashes, i break and the fog light warning on my dash comes on etc etc. Does any 1 know how to solve this? or can i buy a new rear loom or something? thanks

If everything was working properly before the fuse blowing incident then something must have blown, a relay for instance or wires or connectors shorted together. I would start by investigating the bodged loom, trace it back to the original and work from there.

Check also that the earth connection is to  a suitable body mounting point, tight and making a good connection as a bad earth can cause odd problems with lights - again this might be due to your bodged loom.

sounds like wiring/loom has been bodged to light up the lex-@rse lights that were horridly fitted!!.. alot of after market lights have indicator/brake/reverse etc lights in places where not normally are to the wiring need to be adjusted to suit.... follow the coloured wires and re join colour to colour you should be spot on then.... and try not to let you mate go touching wires to gether......  could get expensive if he dont know what hes doin... relays aint cheap... fuses are... friends who know what there doing are better though
