1979 is still after the golf though! Dad had one of them Mantas, slightly older though i think? A silver GTJ. I remember it a little, but not as much as the 1986 Passat he replaced it with! Far superior!

it must of been later then, coz prior to that it was HSR like with the Chevette

didnt they not have the opel ascona or what ever its called in GTE format?

think they did mate but dont think it pre dated the gti, they did an Opel Kadett gte too from 1975 tho  :nerd:

A 1975 Opel with a GTE badge predates the Golf GTI by a year.

Also, Opel were using the GT emblem back in 1968 with the Opel GT, so its likely that they had their bases covered on GTE.
