i thought that they out of all people would be able to tell which wheel it was, but hey who am i!

does anyone know how to check which side has gone?

they have told me to come back when the problem gets worse but my warranty runs out in a couple of weeks.please help guys.stuck here.

Sounds a bit bizarre

I take it you can hear the noise of the faulty bearing?

Usually its a case of jacking up the car and spinning the wheel to check for any roughness and noise - this is easier with the brake pads out as they give a slight resistance to the wheel turning and you can also here a slight noise when the pad touches the disc.
Also grab the wheel top and bottom (6 o'clock) and check for any free play.

IIRC another method when the bearing is noisy is to drive the car, go round a right hand bend, if you hear the noise then its the left bearing, similarly, going round a left hand bend and you hear the noise means its the right hand side bearing.

Jack up the car, free off the pads from the calippers, then put wheel back on with two studs,  Get some garden hose pipe, put a funnel on the end. Spin the wheel,  hold hose (funnel end) as close as possible to the central area after pressing out the VW badge from the centre of the alloy, and without touching, the other end in your ear. The funnel will amplify the sound and you will know.

If you can't hear the difference, then the bearing is OK.

One other check is to get hold of the wheel and check for play side to side, by pushing with your arms, one side of the tyre and then the other, hands have to be on opposite sides of the outside of the tyre to detect this.

What kind of technician at the Dealer is that ? You've been talking to Service reception - and not the blokes who are trained !
