1989 16v pops out of gear

Whilst driving on the motorway my 1989 16v gti pops out of 5th gear into neutral.  This usually happens when you put your foot down a litttle to overtake.

It has only just started to happen and the car has now done just over a hundred thousand miles.

Is this a common problem and is it easy to fix?

sounds like your gearbox is low on oil, get it topped up sharpish before it dies!  Trouble is it may already be too late  :sad:

Ok I'll try that. 

Errm forgive me but how do I top up the gear box oil?
