Camber adjustment, ball jonts, after lowering.
« on: 13 January 2007, 13:43 »
I recently had me Golf dropped -40mm on Eibach springs and was told to have the camber re-checked. I did a search on the forum and it seems 1.25-1.50 negative camber is what i'm after.
Took the Golf to have it re-checked today and it is currently at 2.00 negative camber and the guy says it is at it's maximum adjustment on the bolt at the top of the strut. How do i get the required 1.25-1.50 ? He says that there maybe a negative camber adjustment kit, but he hasn't ever done a Golf only XR3's etc.

So, some questions.......!
Does the ball joint have any adjustment, and should they adjust it?
Do i need the smaller shanked bolts from VW for the top of the strut?
Please help before i need new tyres !!

PS I have searched the forum all afternoon, so many conflicting opinions on it!

Computer games don't affect kids, I mean if Pac Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music.

You set the camber on a mk2 using the 2 bolts holding the damper and the upright together - but the guy really should know that, if he doesn't take it somewhere else quick.

Oh I see, that's strange because a 40mm drop should'nt need much change at all over what's standard - I actually just lowered mine yesterday and I just put the bolts back in the same place as they were before. There's marginally more camber but there's no problem with that - 2 degrees is a little too much though. Hope what I said didn't sound insulting just seems strange to be having problems with what you're saying.

somethings wrong because i had -1 degree set on mine with about -70mm drop, you only need those slimmer bolts when you go widetrack. the balljopints can slide in and out a little bit on the wishbones tho, try that, its the 3 bolts on the underside of the wishbones

2mm is fine I recon, I would have left it for a week and checked the tyre wear :)
