Newbie: MkII 1.8 Driver buying advice
« on: 11 January 2004, 09:47 »
Seen a green 92 1.8 3dr Driver with 90k on it (12months MOT). Average rust
around the filler cap, few bits on the boot. Doors and seals ok.

4th gear although not hard to get kind of slips in as it engages (clutch?) on
fast roads, ok around town.

Car doesn?t come up to temp on the gauge but heater in the car is fine (must
be gauge)

No moister in the car (all the others Ive seen are damp)

Its got some kind of third party gti wheels, (tread excellent) on it (not VW)

It was in a dealer as a PX. He doesn?t really want it there, but had it up
for ?995. I went to see a few others but they were worse and higher mileage
than this one.

I phoned him up and said "Your think Im taking the pi$$ here but in all
honesty I dont think its worth more than 750, but Im willing to offer you
800"

He took it! I hanet been over yet. Still wondering if it really is worth
that, maybe Its 100quid over but all the others Ive seen have been real
dogs. With abit of TLC on the rust this nice dog could be a good example!

What do you think?

Cheers

Tim

check everything, take it for a long drive, but you could get a reasonable gti for that. dont worry to much about miles as long as it has been serviced and looked after they can go really high(my a reg had done 229000 by the time i scrapped it) if you like it then go for it!
