Brake Imbalance on my new Mk2...Help!

Hi

I've just recently bought a Mk2 GTi (will get some info and pics up ASAP).

Took it in for its MOT and it failed on brakes  - handbrake ineffective (replaced the rear caliper today, still doesn't feel better but it must be OK now surely??)

And also a front brake imbalance. I've replaced the discs and pads and bled the system through, but it still seems to be braking strangely - it locks up the left hand wheel but no the right so I'm guessing the imbalance is still there....

...any help to sort it would be much appreciated as I'm hoping to get it retested tomorrow!

sounds like the sliders are binding up up front, get em apart and give everything a good clean :)

are the brakes really soft and spongy too... and does the pedal have a lot of travel, by a lot i mean down to, if not against the floor when braking?

following up from my post, I'd think about throwing on new pads up front, and a full brake system bleed, maybe discs too! Don't want to mess about when it comes to brakes...

i was thinking maybe the master servo / cylinder is on its last legs, can cause a front brake inbalance and cause 1 side to lock up which the other doesnt do anything.

Hi

Check the condition of the flexible brake hoses when braking, does one of them balloon up?

Drop the wheels off the front, check the pads aren't binding (sand the edges down ever so slightly), and make sure the sliders are sliding. Sometimes the rubber seal on the slave piston can perish and just not deliver enough braking power.

How long has the car been off the road for? Could just be a case of driving about and braking to wear them in a little bit.
