Re-Spray Costs - How much is too much?
« on: 09 January 2007, 14:48 »
Hey all,

I know that everyone will have paid diffent prices, and had them from different places, but im just looking for somekind of rough estimate on the cost to re-spray the Golf.

Im staying with the original colour as I love the Mars Red, so no fancy colour changes required.
Can you tell me what you have paid/been quoted so I have an idea of what i need to save or if people are ripping me off with what they say.

or if you can recommend anyone that would be swish.

Cheers, much apprecaited

no there was a lot of preping on both sides, from various dings etc... over the years... the tailgate was rotton underneath the plinth (I didn't know this when booked in!) the front wings were clean and the bonnet wasn't bad either.

either way I'd been quoted over £1500 for more or less the same work, so more than happy!

I painted my 3dr 16v yesterday.. so far I reckon that I've spent over £600 on paint and materials alone (cost price). topped of with over 150 hrs of labour @ £25ph..thats £4750+vat
good job Ive done it all myself! and cut absolutely no corners!
Bottom line, set yourself a budget, try not to get involved in doing any of the bodywork yourself, unless your good at it! very often self prep repaints can set the job further behind, and very frustraiting for the people actually doing the job! best way to help out to keep the price down, is to strip all the parts off the car, and then screw it back together yourself...

Actually, not quite true.. it was late when I posted  I have spent just over £600,  but I forgot to mention that £160 of that was on the purchase of 2 new genuine front wings.....
