my box on my vr6 is a bit sloppy.... and the diff whines a bit but shes done 180k so im not complaining... i occasionally get reverse insted of 1st which seems to be a sloppy linkage prob or something rather than the actual box, im gonna drain the oil in the box tomorrow and refill with fresh to see if it quietens the whine a bit (you cant hear it really but i know its there....) ill let you know if i find that the selector prob is anything simple after ive had a nosey tomorrow... will check this possibble loose nut thingy 1st.. my 3rd gear is a bit of a b1tch aswell at times... when you get 1st its an easy change to second but sometimes (normally when trying to go rather quickly) 3rd is a bit of a 2 second wiggle/pause to get it right... not all the time just now and then.. similar to 1st really...

Got my VR6 back on Monday with the new gearbox, and what a difference it feels like a brand new car, and probably just me but it seems quite a bit more responsive with more vigour about it when accelerating!
I never thought the gearbox was that bad before until it went, but it just goes into gear so easily now (i find myself pulling the gearstick really hard to get it in gear but there is no need to now).
Alright I may have a very empty wallet after the ordeal but I have a massive smile on my face that more than compensates for it !
