Radio unit and wires
« on: 14 October 2006, 22:42 »
Wires, please help. Just brought my first VW and its a Golf GTI, always wanted one as a kid.  I have installed a Sony tape player for the short term but I have got a few wires left and don't know what they are.  Colours are blue +white and yellow + white.  These wires are attached to the red and brown wires that form a box which goes in neatly in to the back of sony unit.  But the two wires describe are not doing anything.  I have had to patch a feed from the red wire (live?) to the head unit for it to come on, with out this the unit is dead.  Also the aerial is not working, not going up, or is it manual?

Also the aerial is not working, not going up, or is it manual?

If the aerial is electric, there will be small wire coming off near the plug of the aerial itself, this needs connecting to the forementioned blue/white remote wire - that'll make the motor work when the unit's switched on.
If there's no wire, I'd guess it's manual.

I just got to the aerial this afternoon, as described in another topic, taking off inner wheel arch.

The aerial is manual and some one had pushed it all the way in/down, hence me asking for help.  I now get a good receiption - many thanks for you help guys.
