they cables look like they go not that far down but u prob already know that the cables go to little wheels/cogs down the bottom of the thing. i would take the whole lot of cables off the botom and reconnect them again, they control flaps in the airbox to divert heat and make heat hot or cold. work out which is which then work out where the wheel has to be to be hot etc then put the slider in the same position then connect it up. i broke mine in me old areg beaut and it went straightback in im not sure why yours is dodgy? go to a scrapyard and have a ganders at a bust mk2. where abouts are you?
