Red DI on TDI?
« on: 11 October 2006, 19:14 »
Hello all.
What's in the difference between the TDI having a red I ? is there any difference? and what about if the DI   is red ?
As i got my eye  :smug: on a Mk4 Golf TDI tiptronic on a 51 plate with 80k on the clock. They said i could have it for £4800

Whats people opinions? the cam belt been changed not sure about the water pump!!  :lipsrsealed:

Cheers.

Generally, a red DI means 130 bhp, full red TDI means 150, Not certain on just the red I.

But, it seams to have been left up to the VW dealer what badge was stuck on so its only a guide. Best way is to check the data sticker under the boot carpet (LHS) it will give you the Kw rating of the engine.

Eg 96KW is the 130 bhp model.

Thanks for the reply Man
The red DI is on the engine cover also, however on the 100bhp its only the red I thats red on the engine cover.
I thought that only the auto's were made in 100bhp?  :undecided: or am i wrong in that? could it be a GT TDI in auto/tiptronic?

I've recently bought a 150 model with a red 'I' on the badge, although any insrance searches have it as a 130. The dealer it still under warrenty with assures it is a 150 with just a red I

Good point, proof that you cannot rely on the badge!

If you want to make certain that your TDI is the 150bhp model, lift the carpet in the boot and check the data sticker, it should say 110kW if its the 150 bhp version.

I have a 130 (96kW) but certain insurance comanies have it listed as a 150!

well looking on Parkers it looks like the only Auto TDI's were with 90 and 100PS engines.  THere's no mention of a 130 with an auto box and looking at the available options it wasn't even an option!  As what has been said before, look in the boot for the KW output.  If its 96KW its a 130.

Can't help any further i'm afraid  :embarassed:
