Idle problem

hello i am from iceland and i have a ?81 gti and it has started to idle at 1800-2200 rpm. Do you know what chuld be wrong wit it  ???

Vaccuum leak. Check all your pipes and hoses and in particular the 'y' shaped housing over the rocker cover.......a bit slides into the housing that can sometimes slide back out and cause a vaccuum leak.

Another thing to check is the aux air valve, this is at the rear of the inlet manifold and lets extra air in to the engine to bring the idle speed up when it is cold. With the engine warmed up, pinch the rubber hose closed on the valve and if the engine speed drops the valve is sticking. Check the electrical connection and supply/earth before you condem the valve.
