What to do, what to do...

I have owned my 1990 1.8 (carb) Cabriolet for 2 years now. Unfortunately, the car needs a lot of work right now to bring it up to pristine condition, with the long term plan to replace the engine with something faster. I cannot decide if it would be a waste of money spending anymore on this car.

Car in good running condition, with working roof (with holes!) and original roof cover, good condition interior, stainless steel exhaust and adjustable lowered suspension.

Work required:

o  New fuel tank and filler neck: (quoted £300 incl labour)
o  Two new front wings, slight bumper repair and full respray.
o  New roof
o  Speedo doesnt work, sensor for radiator fan needs replacing, the gearbox goes into reverse when it should be 1st, the rear brakes need some attention, new bump-stops need fitting on front suspension.

Which option is the more cost-effective, breaking this car and buying a replacement, or spending the money this car requires?

spend more money on the car and make it a show car...

do a pro and con list,
ask ur self if this is the car u have always wanted?
can u make it into the car you always wanted?
have you got the time,money and patience to do the car up?
would you really make enough money selling it/breakin it to break even?
then make a decision and stick with it..at the end of the day, only you'll know what to do with it..

dude im with dinx on this this one! I have spent so much money just getting my car back on the road this year its unbelievable! i was thinking of stripping it and getting rid of it to buy another one then thought what a waste of time these last 3years have been! so ive decided to get it resprayed and get my retrim done as im on a placement year and the money is ok! so anyone out there sos to post jack im currently looking for someone to spray my car this december or january! but seriously fella ill say keep it and get the work done!
