Any idea what would cause this??

Hi all...I'm new to this site only having just picked up a 2000 Gti 20V

Was driving it home and when I came off a roundabout "STOP" flashed up in big letters and the oil light
came on Stopped the car straight away and checked the oil and it was right up to the max...the car has been looked after with a FSH. Driven it since (only for 10 miles and its all ok so far

Do these engines suffer from oil surge?? I was on a corner (left hand) but I wasn't caning it....

The only thing that I can think of is oil surge and also the guy who I brought it from serviced it himself but used a Halford oil filter and I presume Halford oil...would this cause any problems??

not sure unless you were giving it some coming out of the roundabout and the oil slopped to one side of the sump then this would set off the low level alarm hence the warning, or the oil pressure may have dropped slightly whilst doing the same thing... oil sumps normally have baffles in to prevent this but on extremely hard cornering and throwing about it can happen... if the oil level is ok and the car is fine now try goin a bit steadier out of round abouts or if it happens again id get the level and or pressure switch's looked at?

I wasn't going that fast to be honest..I've only just brought the car so was taking it easy until I'm confident that its a good car

Would the ECU log this as a fault code or is it separate from the ECU...I would think it is separate as most cars are.. I've got a scanner so hopefully this might throw something up??

Ive got to change the cambelt, wil prob do the water pump aswell...seen too many with that stupid plastic one break!!
Wil use OE oil and parts, hopefully it won't happen again
