Which one is better - VR6 or 1.8T?

were not comparing r32 or 4motion,its about is the 1.8t better than the vr6 mk3,i know what ya saying about the r32 but come on ya cant realy compare an r32 to a 1.8t,there worlds apart

lets remember we're also comparing the 2 standard engines, a standard VR6 would destroy a standard Mk4 1.8t, 0-60 in over 8secs....

The Mk4 is a heavier car, and if you only get the 150bhp version it's got less bhp per ton than a Mk3 16v (which is also 150bhp).
So the Mk3 VR6 is older, and it's only a little lighter than the Mk4, but it's got more power to begin with.

The Mk3 isn't that old anyway, I saw an S reg recently, so that's a 98/99 car.

As someone said it's down to wallet and preference really.

A good Mk3 VR6 will be £3-4k (for decent milage, you can get them for less if you'll accept higher milage)
An early Mk4 1.8T will probably be about £5k
Later Mk4 1.8T upto £8-9k

As for the Mk4 TDI's, they're getting very popular especially with the chipping possibilties.
You can find them for as little as £3-4k for a 130 or about £6k for a 150.

Best to check out your favourites to see which you prefer to drive.

thought they stopped making the mk3 in 1997??

I thought the Mk3 went up to R plate (which is 98, right ?), then I saw this S reg. It was probably built in 98 but not sold right away, hence registered on an S plate. Like the ultra rare K plate mk2s that come up every so often.

r32's are way too expensive not in the same league! 1.8t's are nice and i like the sound of a turbo,but come on the v rarrrrr sound cannot be substituted! as for newer and all that,my vr has all the mod cons,windows,wheels etc etc dodgey fuses the lot!
