A little help please!!

Does anybody know if a turbo or a supercharger can be fitted to a mk4 gti 1.8 and also who does stuff like this? Is the 1.8 turbo engine identical to the 1.8 na engine with just a turbo mounted to it? Im not very good at the mechanical side of things really. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

i reckon it could be done but with the money you spend on doing so you would be better off buying a MK4 with the 1.8T already in it!

a few people have asked recently how to get more power and sadly its always the same answer!

Im baffled as to why anyone would want to buy a non turbo to then fit a turbo  as mentioned above the decision to buy a 1.8t is the most obivous and logical answer!

Yeah probably would be cheaper doing it that way but the problem is I cant get insured on a 1.8t! If the engine goes straight in without having to change the gear box or drive shafts etc etc then it wouldnt be much to get hold of an engine from a breakers and fit it. but still id rather keep my engine and get a turbo or supercharger fitted to that as i know its healthy. I have seen a supercharger kit on awesomegti for the 2.0l but non listed for the 1.8! surely somewhere can do it! anybody know???

Without trying to sound partonising if your talking about super/turbocharging its not going to make insurance any better more likely worse if you start modding and if you dont tell them then whats the point in having insurance at all as they wouldnt pay out. If youve got the money take it to a reputable tuner and im sure they could do something with a t28 but for the money you could buy a newer 1.8t or v6 and chip giving you an easy 200+bhp and pay the higher insurance. Ive thought about modding mine(2.0) with a supercharger but its really not worth it for what you gain although much rarer, so im waiting for a years no claims and a bit more money to get something more powerful.

I would be willing to pay a higher insurance but they wont even give me a quote. Ive just turned 19 so im not suprised they wont really! anyway I wouldnt be telling the insurance company about the mods but theres no need to worry about the paying them out incase of a crash as I work for an insurance repair company so the assesor would be one of my collueges and as if hes gunna ask to look under the bonnet  .

a prime example of why insurance premiums are going through the roof 

just buy a 1.8T or a V6 or an R32; cheaper in the long run and more powerful to start with. or even get a diesel and get that remapped

what happens when a 3rd party assessor comes out to inspect the car after you've pranged it ?

little things like backboxes and airfilters i can understand.. but a turbo conversion ?

save your money until you can afford to insure the car properly. somewhere like adrian flux, brentacre or HIC will be able to get a quote for you.
