What do you mean by temp switch? The thermostat that turns the engine fan on, the oil temperature sensor, the water temp sensor....?

rad fan sensor is in the radiator somewhere, and the ecu/dash gauge sensor is in the plastic flange attached to the front of the block. £20-£30 from VW IIRC, but don't bother with bpattern ones as they're rubbish.
